Liam Doona

Costume Design, Set Design

Liam is a designer and Head of the Department of Design and Visual Arts at Dun Laoghaire Institute of Art, Design and Technology.

Graduating from Nottingham Trent University in 1986, he worked extensively in the UK both as a practicing designer and academic before relocating to Ireland in 2006. Liam has led and developed programmes in design at a number of British Universities and co-authored Ireland’s first suite of honours degrees in Design for Stage and Screen at IADT. He is an Expert Panellist (Art, Design and Drama) for the Higher Education Training and Awards Council (HETAC Ireland) and a highly experienced external examiner.

Recent design work includes DonegalShe Stoops to ConquerYou Never Can Tellat the Abbey, Conservatoryat The Peacock, Best Manat The Everyman Cork and Project Arts Centre Dublin, The Fieldand Borstal Boyat the Gaiety , The Bloody IrishPBS TV/Helix. Previously Liam was resident designer at Theatre Royal York.

Liam’s research writing is included in two Routledge publications, A Reader in Scenographyand Designers’ Shakespeare. He is currently working on a biography of Irish designer Sean Kenny.
